The Angel of the North and Another Place

The Angel of the North is 20 metres tall and has a wingspan of 54 metres. It has stood just outside Low Fell, near Gateshead, since 1998 – overlooking the junction of the A1 and A167 roads. According to The Independent in 1999 (quoting Gormley himself) and The Grauniad in 2010 (both reporting on other controversial Gormley creations) it's known locally as 'the Gateshead Flasher'.

Another Place consists of multiple identical, life–sized statues, and can be seen on Crosby Beach, Merseyside. It was originally displayed in Germany, in 1997; it moved to Norway, then Belgium. When installed at Crosby it was originally intended to be moved to New York, but Crosby is now its permanent home.
